Houlskye

During a ten day blockade of the track on the single line between Middlesbrough and Whitby, a 3km stretch of steel and concrete sleeper renewals were undertaken in September 2020. The Houlsyke track renewal work was delivered with the Balfour Beatty NTC.
Smarttrax were working in partnership with 1st In Rail on the minor works framework.
Smarttrax Rail staff were involved in the early development and programming of works which included:
- Producing hour by hour programmes
- Provision of ballast calculations and other material requirements
- Ordering supplies for the install
- Train planning around the 10 day blockade
Smarttrax provided the project with engineering staff for all aspects of the scheme, including:
- Design verification survey (DVS)
- Site set out including site calibration for GPS dozing
- Producing 3D dozing files
- Creating ALC/GEKO files for tamping
- Core site works including – 3D dozing, surveying & tamping and level 2 stressing
- Follow up works including – Follow up tamps, installing geometry and datum plates and relevant paperwork
Following the works Smarttrax engineers were responsible for the completion of follow up tamping and the marking of final track geometry.
