Carr Lane Track Monitoring
April – August 2020

Splitter

Keltbray Rail contacted Smarttrax Rail to request a solution to track monitoring issues that they were facing during the installation of a new undertrack subway. Due to the nature of the ground that the subway passed through, the track required monitoring up to three times a day without the track being accessible for an initial twenty week period.

Smarttrax Rail installed a series of prisms to the rail at 3m intervals throughout the site and established a survey baseline with total station equipment. Two total stations were set up on site within bespoke security containers (designed and fabricated by Smarttrax) to allow remote monitoring. The track monitoring results were collated by a Smarttrax engineer for assessment and then a report was sent out daily to give assurances to NWR and other contractors involved with the excavation works that they were not affecting the safe running of trains during the works.

Follow up support was also supplied to Keltbray Rail with tamping during follow up works.

All our track monitoring is delivered and reviewed by an experienced Handback engineer and not just a surveyor. This helps to visually check the track and react to any issues that may arise making instant decisions on the safety of traffic.
